Q: Is there any driver for an HP Laserjet 5000 printer that will work with OS 10.10.2?

I have an older laserjet printer and since updating to OS 10.10.2 I cannot print. I have been on with HP, and they no longer support this printer, and the latest driver is compatible with OS 10.6. Does anyone know a way to get around this? I really cannot go out and buy another printer, this one is great.

Thanks

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

I seem to remember this model supporting the PCL printer language and having an optional Postscript kit available. There are Generic versions of each printer language included with OS X so you could try creating a print queue and using the Generic PCL driver for starters. Note that by default this driver is set to 300dpi resolution, so the prints will look a bit blurry. But you can change the setting to 600dpi via the driver menus.

Mention you're using a Mac and HP will give up pretty easily. It doesn't matter whether the printer is new or old.

Since the driver you have been using no longer works, did you try OS X's generic PostScript printer driver?

I agree old HP printers are built well and last forever, and no one likes keeping perfectly good printers in service more than I do, but are you absolutely certain a new printer is out of the question? Faster and much more capable laser printers than the LaserJet 5000 are readily available today for less than $100. HP doesn't make them.

Even finding a replacement your toner cartridge for yours must be getting difficult. The street price for that toner cartridge is about $150. HP's list price is well over $200.

HP must have forgotten that they included a driver for the LaserJet 5000 Series in the drivers they gave Apple to distribute.    The LaserJet 5000 Series is listed as being supported on Apple's page of supported printers.  The driver included is a PostScript  driver.  As John and PAHU have indicated, either the Generic PostScript or PCL driver should also work.

thanks for your reply. I have not tried the generic driver, I will. The thing I love so much about my printer is that it prints 11x17 as well as letter size and those are not so easy to find. But I'll look into it. thanks again.
