Iphone5 - suspect a virus, how to check to see if there is one or not

That is more likely to be a compromised email account than an iphone with a virus... much more likely.

I strongly recommend changing the password to your email ASAP as your email account may be compromised.

iPhone viruses are only really a threat to jailbroken iphones (aside from the 2 or 3 ios virus that made it onto the app store but thats out of atleast 1.2 million apps)

There is very little likelihood that it's a virus. It's not possible at all unless your phone is jailbroken at this point.

Josh is probably correct in that it's most likely a compromised email account. Change your password.

I'd be very interested if you could cite your sources for there having been viruses in apps on the App Store that can affect a non-jailbroken iPhone.

Thanks for the reference, though I was asking the other poster. The link you gave does not indicate that any apps in the iOS App Store are infected with any viruses, though (thankfully!).
