The iCloud on ipod is connected to an old email we dont have anymore, so I can't log off.

We have an iPod 5th gen that has attached itself to an old email account that we no longer have. A message keeps popping up requesting that we "Sign in to iCloud." I don't have the password to sign in or out and the message won't go away. I have removed the email from our current Apple account but we can't get passed the "Sign in to iCloud" message. Help! How can I get rid of the old email without the password?

iPod touch (5th generation), iOS 8.1.3

You need to do the following to sign out the iCloud account from your iPod:

1. Go to Manage Your Apple ID and sign in with your current ID and password. EDIT the Apple ID back to the old email address. This is temporary. Do NOT verify the email address, do NOT change the password: Apple - My Apple ID

2. Go to Settings>iCloud on your device and scroll to the bottom of the screen and click on Sign Out. When prompted, type in the current Apple ID password. Follow the remaining prompts to sign out the iCloud account.

3. Go back to Manage your Apple ID and sign in with the old Apple ID and current password. EDIT the Apple ID back to the new email address. You may have to verify it again.

4. Go back to Settings>iCloud on the device and sign back into iCloud with the current Apple ID and password.
