Move photos from text message to desktop?

I'm old and hate texting, but a friend is sending me texts with photos attached (I don't even know how to attach a photo to a text!). For some reason, these photos will not maximize by tapping on them or using two fingers to try to stretch them. The iPhone screen is too small anyway, so I don't care if I never figure that out. What I would like to know, is if there is any way to move the photos from the iPhone text messages to my Mac Pro desktop. Much Google and many searches of this community turned up bupkis. Shouldn't this be easy?

You would need to save the pictures to your camera roll from the text message.

Once in your camera roll you can then import the pics to your Mac Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or Windows PC - Apple Support

Yes, I've never had any problem getting the photos off of the camera roll with iPhoto. It's automatic. What I needed to know was how to move them from the text message to the camera roll. The answer turned out to be double-tap with a single finger, and select save. Thanks.
