Q: Switching iTunes accounts for family sharing

I Have one iTunes accounts and everyone in the family is using it. Hubby's phone and 2 kids iPads plus my phone and iPad.

I Want to set everyone up their own and connect with family sharing BUT:

is There a way to switch hubby's phone from my iTunes account to his new one without wiping his contacts /apps/ calendar? And switch the kids to their own without wiping game progress?

    Is your iTunes account different from your iCloud account or your Apple login? If they are different then you don't have a problem because contacts / appts and mail are linked to your iCloud, not your iTunes.

     

    Game progress depends on the game - some keep it locally so even restoring onto a new phone will wipe your progress, and others keep it in Gamecenter (which is linked to your iCloud account).

     

    But on the whole I think you will lose a lot of stuff when moving to a new iCloud account and here's another gotcha - you need to use a specific account to erase the phone or set it up so make sure you don't close down an account that was used to set up a device you still have. You might be safest erasing the phone and setting it up from new using the new iCloud account.

     

    So what I would do is something like this (but I do have a separate account for iTunes and iCloud)

    Create the new iCloud account and add it to Family

    Create a shared calendar with the new account

    Move appointments to the shared calendar

    After setting up the new account on the phone it will be able to see the shared appointments and should be able to either copy or edit the appointments to a private calendar (or just start using a new calendar and keep the appointments in the shared calendar until they are all past)

    Email is a problem because it all belongs to the iCloud account  - I don't see how you could have had separate email in iCloud with only one account. If your email is in another account than iCloud then just add it to the other phone and remove it from your phone and it'll be where it belongs but be careful if the mail is in a POP3 account as that is local mail and so sent mail etc would be lost. IMPA mail will be fine and so will Googlemail or Exchange.

    If you have a single account for iTunes and iCloud then you would need to download all the apps again from App store: Updates / Puchased and use the link in top left to select the account who bought all the apps you want (it's the same in Music BTW - just go to More (...) Purchased and pick the relevant family member.)
