If you are trying to install an OS X version newer than Mac OS X 10.5.8 Leopard in a PowerPC

Apple Macintosh version hardware, it will not happen. The OS X 10.7 Lion won't run in PPC...

Yet the process to boot into FireWire Target Disk Mode is about the best way to install and

also to test the drive in another computer that supports FireWire400/800.

If the aluminum 'PowerMac' happens to be a Mac Pro (intel) - then it could run Lion 10.7.x.

However Tiger 10.4(.11) and Leopard 10.5(.8) are most likely candidates for the G4/G5 vintage.

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂
