early mac pro with 10.10.2 and L10.1- a few issues

Hi All,

Wondering if new mac pro will remedy the following. Since updating to LX10 and Yosemite on my early '09 MacPro, having these issues:

1.Sluggish in the graphics (automation drawing, redraws, linked score and piano roll graphics, etc).

2. Audio frequently mutes when rig is being synced to mtc. Unitor for sync

3. Chase Notes Setting disables after most scissor edits

4. Screen sets frequently get mangled

My template utilizes several slaves over VEP, plus many software insts in Logic, also large audio mixer. Template was not imported, but built in LX

All was a breeze on this rig with L9/SnowLep.

My main question is, will all of this clear up by upgrading one of the the new MacPros (circular thing)? Are many people using the new ones yet with Logic?

Thanks for any insight.

Mark

This has briefly been discussed among a few members online here, Art of Sound, Octopi.

General consensus is you will never see the smooth performance of Logic-9 and Snow Leopard again. Both Logic and OSX have evolved from "performance oriented" to mass appeal oriented. Apple is looking to a wider audience. Logic is now released to the public in beta condition, meanwhile OSX is being brought under the iOS development program so there will eventually be a single development program for both mobile and desktops.

I have a 2010 Mac Pro and I'm staying with L9 and SL.

Even a new Mac Pro can't overpower OSX and Logic.

Horrible performance on new Mac pro

Feb 7, 2015 10:16 AM in response to Pancenter

Hi all 🙂

I'm a bit busy this weekend in the studio.. (with my new Mac Pro!) so bear with me and Ill try and offer some advice as and when I can.....

But as Pancenter so rightly states, if I had a choice, I'd stick with SL and LP9 for as long as I could... The only reason Im using Yosemite and LPX at the moment is because my new Mac Pro isn't supported under SL.... so I have no choice but to enter the 'dark side" 🙂

However, the combo of LPX10.1 and Yosemite 10.10.2 on the new Mac Pro has been a lot more stable (Once i cleared out older plugins etc) and providing better overall performance than any previous OS X / LPX combo I have tried.... Its still not as good as my SL10.6.8/LP9.1.5 setup.. but its getting there and after this weekend, I should have a better idea as to how to properly set things up to get the most out of the new hardware/OS X configuration...

Of course, others here may also have some alternative opinions and advice to offer in the meantime... so please don't take mine as 'gospel' by any means! 😀

Cheers..

Nigel

Hi Nigel and Pancenter,

One other issue I'm having is very slow Undo. (Only 25 steps in prefs). Below is a report showing a LEGACY FILE VAULT ERROR in System Launch Daemons. Not sure how to resolve that or what to look for. Thanks for any advice.

I've looked in the past messages as I recall someone mentioning this before.

One of the solutions related to upgrading something relating to waves plugins, wave shell or something related to the copy protection.

There's also these:

Re: Very slow Undo/Redo Process !

Re: Hi, can anyone tell me the solution to my query... The rainbow ball appears when pressing undo, and it stays for 3-5 seconds every time i press undo. I noticed this when i was deleting stuff in the Piano roll, but it happens every time i undo now.

I saw that.. but thought it must surely be one time thing as no one would run both at the same time an and complain about Logic-X being slow.

Feb 28, 2015 9:27 PM in response to Pancenter

Yes, sorry. Launched 9 to bounce Audio to Movie (does not work for me in LX) and forgot it was up when I ran diagnostic. I never run them at the same time. I wonder does even having 9 installed on same machine interfere with LX prefs, or are they discreet?

The undo slowness has been happening since Mavericks/LX for me. Thanks Pancenter, I will go thru those posts you mentioned. Think it's time to start over on fresh system drive/clean installs.

Thanks for input.
