iTunes 6464 Installation issues

Is anyone having issues installing iTunes 6464 version?

I have admin rights but when I run the installer as an administrator it says I do not have sufficient rights to run the Apple mobile service.

I also get and Error 7 Windows error if I "ignore" the above error.

I have removed all iTunes programs and re-installed but I get the same error. I have tried manually running the service but I get error 1053 (service did not respond in a timely manner)!

Help!!!!

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.

Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

If the advice above doesn't resolve things you could try this alternate version:

iTunes 12.1.0.71 for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) - itunes64setup.exe (2015-01-28)

Or roll back to the previous build:

I'm having the same problem with this iTunes release on Windows Vista 64 bit--can't get Apple Mobile Device Service to run. I hope Apple is taking note of this. I finally gave up and installed the previous 64 bit version (thanks for the link) as suggested and I'm back up and running. I'll keep watching this forum for a fix. Maybe it will happen before I upgrade this PC/operating system!

Regarding AMDS failures there is a hint in another thread that disabling the Windows Firewall before attempting to reinstall may help, otherwise take a look at the steps outlined in this post. Re: Can't install iTunes 12.1 on Windows 7 64-bit. I know they look a little daunting, but the process of generating the logs themselves isn't that hard to do. Extracting useful information from them is still a challenge but maybe something will leap out. If you want to post the log for the failed component for me to have a look at here or in the other thread please edit out any personal information, particularly your email address, first.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.

Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

If the issue persists and you have a 64-bit system try the for older video cards version which is a 64-bit installer for mostly 32-bit code, similar to all 64-bit versions of iTunes up to 12.1.

If you've tried the above without success then see the method in Install missing components. What component fails to install, and what error message does it give? See this post for steps to produce detailed logs of the installation which may reveal why iTunes won't install. Look for words like failed or error.
