Is there a way of closing finder?

I have a new macbook and am trying to figure it out.

Is it possible to close finder? other apps have a close option on their dropdown menu, finder doesn't. and when i go to log off I am being told it is still open and I need to close it. How do i close it?

Thank you.

Actually, no, you can't really close Finder like you can other apps. You can close all Finder windows, but not Finder itself. In the Force Quit Applications window, if you select Finder, the button label changes to "Relaunch", which will just restart Finder.

There is probably some low-level super-geek way to kill the process, but I don't think it's something most users would ever need to do. When no windows are open Finder doesn't consume so much in the way of system resources. You're probably best off to just close all the windows if you want them out of the way, and not worry about Finder.
