Internal Modem Install In MDD G4

Recently acquired a very nice MDD G4 with lots of goodies, but no internal V90/92 modem (it was originally a BTO and the modem wasn't ordered). Are these modems still available. Where? Anyone know the model number?

Thanks,

Carl B.

Hi there,

you could try one of these USB modems though: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wo/9.RSLID?mco=1 7D1AF8D&nplm=MA034Z%2FA

In the above listing it doesn't mention your Mac as I guess it assumes there's no need for it on your model - shipped with internal as you know. May need Tiger if you don't have it 😟

Also the reviews seem a little hit-&-miss.

This modem maybe an alternative for you, maybe not.

Is Broadband not available where you are?

Carl, I bought a G4 MDD also on Ebay, came without a modem bought one on Ebay Apple internal 56K..., installed it but it doesn't appear in apple profiler, I added it as an option to connect, but it doesn't seem to be there, I've taken it out and reinstalled it many times, does Bluetooth need to be turned off? or the ethernet disabled? I'm running the latest version of !0.4.8 Is there software for it? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, Thanks Carla

Carla,

Welcome to the forum.

Not to say that this is what is happening to you, but when first I installed the modem card I didn't see it in the profiler either. While seated next to my MDD G4, I popped open the side cover and looked at the modem card. Though I thought I had forcefully inserted it on installation, I noted that I could see under the card. Pressing on the edge of the connector end of the card it popped into place and I was able to see it in the profiler.

No special software is required. OS X Tiger (10.4.8) should recognize the unit and allow configuring it in System Preferences under Network.

I don't have Bluetooth, but it shouldn't interfere nor should your on-board ethernet. You should see the modem in the profiler under both the modem and under USB items (it is actually a USB bus modem.

I assume that you turned around the phone plug jack that opens the phone plug to the back of your tower, unless that jack was already exposed on your MDD G4. Not sure, but that may have an affect on whether or not the profiler sees the modem.
