Transfer content to new ipad

i just bought a new iPad air 2. I backed up my old iPad to icloud, but some things like message strings didn't transfer over, in iCloud under the settings, there is no option to sync messages. Do I need to start over and rebuild my message strings over time? I would have wanted to keep them.
