Best alternative to Spin Doctor?

I've purchased my 3rd edition of Toast, and the bundled Spin Doctor is more colorful than ever but no more useful. I do a lot of conversion of cassettes and LP's as well as editing of files intended for radio broadcasts. The wave patterns of Spin Doctor are completely useless, so I try to rely on time alone, but again I often can't edit at the precise hundredth of a second which is often essential to a usuable final copy.

The tech people at the radio station where I occasionally work swear by Cool Edit, which looks easy, enjoyable, efficient and accurate. As a hard-core Apple person, I'm trying to achieve the same with my own machine. Currently, are there any Apple programs comparable with Cool Edit, or are there at least superior alternatives to Spin Doctor (that don't require significantly more technical know-how?)?

Thanks,
Cap

Thanks. That's a completely new one to me. I'm looking for a fairly simple, stand-alone, all-purpose program that will record and provide wave patterns that aren't for mere show (I'm surprised Roxio hasn't gotten more flack for Spin Doctor), but I see Amadeus provides a free trial download, and the price is certainly right. I'm going to look at Sound Studio as well, especially if Amadeus doesn't have a timer feature (I record FM a lot when I'm away from the computer). If Amadeus lacks this feature but has superior wave patterns for editing, maybe the solution will be Sound Studio for recording, Amadeus for editing.
