It is time for me to upgrade from Lion to Maverick on MDC. Its only a MDC with no open directory or active directory running on it. It says to backup my SAN volume in the instructions, but I can't because it's over 40tb. Is there a way to migrate to maverick and Xsan 3 without buying a more storage to back up the San volume? any help is well appreciated
Apple has pulled Mavericks from download with the release of Yosemite.
You are now going to have to upgrade to Yosemite now.
I Already purchased maverick before yosemite was release so that not a problem. We just can't afford to purchase more storage to backup the San volume
Upgrading your SAN controllers should not affect your data on the XSAN volumes. I say "should not" but while it is not expected behaviour it is recommended practise to backup important data (because it's important, right?). Use a tape library or some cheaper RAIDs or bare drives. Anything. Get a 2nd copy. It's a best practise and wise move.
