Q: Text Message Forwarding confirm code won't show up in Mac

I'm trying to setup Text Message Forwarding between my iPhone 6 and MBP (mid 2011). Both Mac and iPhone are in the same network and using same iCloud account, but when I try to enable it on the iPhone it asks me to enter a code that's shown on the Mac, but nothing shown there. I've read many threads here and over the the internet, no chance :(. Should my number appear in the Mac's iMessage app? it only shows my emails registered to send/receive iMessages.

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10), iPhone 6. iPod Nano 2nd Generation

This is what helped me get the code; thank you for posting this suggestion.  I had used the instructions that included resetting the network (losing WiFi passwords but fortunately I don't think I had that many) which hadn't worked.  Then I saw your message.

I was actually signed in but I logged out and back in and then repeated the process to turn on 'Text Message Forwarding' [Messages > Turn on iMessage > Text Message Forwarding . Turn on my device) and the code popped up on the screen.

Sent a text from the phone and got a reply -- on the laptop!

Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you!  This means I don't always have to know where my phone is!

Thank you (and all the rest who have posted) for these instructions, but alas, nothing has worked for me.  Several months ago, message forwarding worked between my iPhone 5s and my two iPads but for some reason it stopped and although I have spent the better part of two days trying various procedures, I am getting nowhere.  As of now, I am officially giving up on the entire thing, and will just write it off as a bad idea.  For those who have been successful, I am happy for you!

    Take care!

This doesn't work for me. Did all the steps twice. Popup message never pops up. Also doesn't appear in notifications.

    What worked for me was:

On the MacBook > Messages > Preferences > iMessage a/c > I ticked the box that had my phone number listed.

    Hope this might help

The upgrade to IOS 9.3 did something to knock out the message forwarding. This thread helped. I'm getting my messages again on my other devices. Thanks!

I have tried all of the above to no avail. When I select 'Text Message Forwarding' the iMessages app opens on my mac but no code shows up.

If you were like me, I totally missed a post by who says:

"I just figured out why I wasn't getting the code, it was because i somehow got logged out of my apple ID in iMessages.  Check to make sure you are logged in, to do this go to iMessages (on your mac), up at the top Messages, Preferences, Accounts tab, and find your iMessages account and if your not logged in then log in and it will then send you the code."

Why in the world would I get logged out? This has happened more than once now. Glad for his post. Hope this is the deal with your issue, too, and hope it helps.

    Good luck!

I tried the above. I am logged into the same accounts. When I move the 'Text Message Forwarding' slider on my iPhone 6S it opens the iMessages app on my MacBook Pro. I just learned that I have not done "Two-step Verification" for either of my device. Unfortunately the verification will take until April 2nd.

Two step verification did not fix my problem.

In my case, the problem is that Apple does not verify numbers from Iran (apparently), so i can't get my number verified.

If verification was the problem, I think that then the messaging wouldn't work on the iPhone. In my case, my iMessages on my iPhone works fine.

No, to use iMessage you only need an Apple ID and an email address.

Yesterday I suddenly stopped getting my Messages messages on my MacBook Pro. iPhone recipients were not getting them from me, either, but it only showed failed in Msgs for non-iPhone people. Also, there was no change in the name (seems like it was a different color when I wasn't logged in properly). I tried turning Forwarding off and on from my iPhone, but that only brought up the validation code box to input it on the phone, and I never got the validation code at the computer. I tried doing bluetooth linking, but even though they could see each other, the computer and the phone would not connect. I decided to let it go and get back to it another time.

Then suddenly today, I started getting Messages on my computer! For no good reason, either, since I could never validate and the forwarding feature was turned off. I guess it connected my account with my email, or something, as well. In any case I was happy, but that wasn't the end of it.

I opened my computer later in the day, and Messages was jumping up and down in my dock, so I brought it up, and low and behold, there was a validation code!!! Obviously, it was an old one, so after I made sure to cancel and wait until no more popped up (they kept popping up because I kept trying to validate with the previous number, which, of course, wasn't the one it was waiting for), I entered the number and Forwarding is now turned back on. Crazy - a day later!!

In any case, if you aren't seeing the validation code, make sure Messages is open and not hiding behind another window or minimized, and you are logged into your account. May not help everyone, but in this case today, it may have been because Messages was in the background, or maybe it just wasn't working properly yesterday. Who knows.

I had the problem in El Capitan 10.11.4, where the code just wouldn't show.

    Frustrated.

Then I followed the instructions in Get help using Continuity with your iOS device or your Mac - Apple Support and all is working again.

    Huzzah!

Hope it works for you too
