Q: Text Message Forwarding confirm code won't show up in Mac

I'm trying to setup Text Message Forwarding between my iPhone 6 and MBP (mid 2011). Both Mac and iPhone are in the same network and using same iCloud account, but when I try to enable it on the iPhone it asks me to enter a code that's shown on the Mac, but nothing shown there. I've read many threads here and over the the internet, no chance :(. Should my number appear in the Mac's iMessage app? it only shows my emails registered to send/receive iMessages.

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10), iPhone 6. iPod Nano 2nd Generation

Interesting - I had no problem getting the code on my Mac, but my iPad wouldn't do it.    The geniuses couldn't solve that, and phone support had me logging off of iCloud several places then resetting both my phone and my pad.    I'm setting things back up right now after that.

Right now, I'm discovering and fixing what got lost:

    Reset phone & pad:

Had to add a 6 digit number instead of the 4 digit number we knew.

    Lost background photos

    Lost fingerprints

    Duplicate photos showed up.

    Lost Internet passwords

Had to type in passwords dozens of times.

Lost all of my Apple Pay settings

Lost my "Find My Friends".    This is a pain, as I don't use my phone for e-mail, and getting the links on my Mac doesn't work.

    Maybe that's all.

    Many thanks, Howard.

I thought the numbers would be immediate. Then doing it again later with both iPhone and iMac Message visible, the number appeared.

We've become a "I want it now" society, expecting everything to be immediate and when it's not there pronto, our arms go up in the air … like amending artwork for a client, they think it's "presto, it's done".

I'm ashamed to think that I've got caught up in that. Anyhow, all is working hunky-dory now.

Here's another dilemma if u can fathom it out? My Apple Maps on iOS 9.3.1 "can't connect to the internet". How to remedy that?

I've this problem too. Yesterday iMessage stopped working on my two iMac ... after a lot of sign out right now the popup code doesn't  show anymore.

All messages on iMessage on my mac are GREEN and and remain stuck in the submission.

I tried literally all of the other fixes listed before this and this really fast and simple fix was the one that worked.  Thanks!

Don't waste your time trying to fix it. It's an AppleID issue and is out of your control.

Dirtyeggroll you are not alone.  I am having this exact problem.  I've tried absolutely everything except taking my mac back into the Apple Store (that's next).  When I click the slider for Text Message Forwarding in Settings Messages on my iPhone, the Messages app launches on my Mac (so you know something is happening) but there just is no code.

I have tried logging in and out of iCloud on all of my devices multiple times.

I have checked and unchecked all of the email addresses associated with my iCloud account multiple times in Send & Receive on the iPhone and the mac.

I have changed my iCloud password.

I have sacrificed a chicken and tossed a virgin into Mt St Helens.

We can tell there is a connection happening because the Mac app Messages launches by it's self when Text Message Forwarding is switched on on the iPhone and this is the nuance that most people miss.  I'd sure love an answer.

Just throwing this out there, may not be you guy's issue, but I was having this same problem and had already done the chicken sacrifice and all that... Turns out that somehow my contact information was in the "blocked callers", as soon as I removed that codes started showing up and all works as expected.  Hope it helps someone.

    Thanks!

This was my issue also, and somewhere along the lines, my number on the mac wasn't checked anymore.

    THANKS!

    Good Morning Greg,

Thank you for the awesome assistance! However; I had literally completed this reset for Text Forwarding step-by-step and I am still encountering the problem! Any other idea? I have also reset both devices!

I'm baffled it worked fine with my other 4s I just needed a new phone

Any additional assistance would be SO greatly appreciated! Because now I can't even and any pictures to a non-iPhone user.

    Thank you again!

    Thank you ALL....

I had this happen to me after I'd upgraded my iPhone. My Mac was available to choose in my iPhone under General Settings > Messages > Text Message Forwarding. Choosing it, however, did not pop the message. Here's what I had to do (and what you should check regardless of whether you recently upgraded your iPhone or not):

    1. On your Mac, go to Messages and open Preferences.
    2. Go to Accounts and make sure your iMessage account shows up.
    3. Sign in to this account, then enable both your phone number and your email address.

This was my issue - since I had already signed into my iMessage account long before, I never thought to check it. However, the upgrade to the new phone somehow broke the connection to my iMessage account. As soon as I restored it, everything connected again.

I'd recommend making sure this is done before trying some of the other suggestions on this page (which are excellent and necessary in a variety of situations - but do the least destructive and most necessary steps first!).

My ultimate solution was to give up and set up my phone from scratch.    Fortunately I could write down all of my settings to recreate it from scratch instead of from a backup.
