Q: How do I stay signed in to Facetime?

Recently Facetime has been asking me for my Apple password the first time incoming calls are received after starting the computer.  Until a couple of days ago, FT would always be automatically signed in, but now before answering a call I must input my password.

    Do you use iCloud Keychain?

@Linc, the answer gets a bit involved.  Sorry in advance.

Last week I spent an hour on the phone with Apple tech support because my computer suddenly and inexplicably cut off my access to iCloud.  As an aside, I could still sign into iCloud via the web site and all my peripheral devices (iPhone, iPad).  After much trouble shooting it came down to rebuilding a new keychain.  Until that point I had always disabled iCloud keychain, preferring my 1Password instead.

After your question above, I noticed that iCloud keychain is checked under the System Preferences.  Selecting the Options tab reveals a window with a check mark beside the "Allow approving with security code," and another tab to change that code.  I don't remember ever making such a code.

I'm a bit wary of deselecting the iCloud keychain for fear of reproducing the previous problem.

    Suggestions?

Back up all data. Open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the Keychain box. You'll be prompted to delete the local iCloud keychain. Confirm—the data will remain on the servers. Then re-check the box. Follow one of the procedures described in this support article to set up iCloud Keychain on an additional device. Test.

Thank you for the effort, but sadly this didn't work.  After accomplishing the above, I'm still left with the problem of having to sign in to facetime every time I restart the computer.  Additionally, since going through the above process,  the Facebook App on my phone and iPad crash.

iCloud keychain is proven the bane of my computing experience!

You seem to have an account issue. Click the Support link at the top of this page and schedule a call from Apple Support. You may not be charged for the call if you select "Apple ID"—not the hardware model—as the product you're asking about.

So FYI only, apple support had me trash the upper most folder in user > library > keychain.  The folder will rebuild, making you sign into at least each mail proxy and my facetime.  Once that was done, the problem seems fixed.

    Thanks for your support.

It was Facebook (not Facetime) that was crashing.  It too seems resolved, albeit after several "manipulations:' trash app, wait several minutes, re-download app, reboot device.
