Q: Photo Library on my iPhone - how do i delete these pictures?

I have an iPhone 5.  It has 16GB of storage.  Currently, Photo Library is taking up 7.1 GB.  I've deleted pictures and movies off my iPhone, but the storage does not change.  What am I doing wrong?

    I was having the same issue and realized that photos and videos I was deleting on my iPhone were being held up in a "Recently Deleted" album for 30 days as a safeguard in case it was an accidental deletion.  You can find it within Albums on your phone.  Within this album, you can select all or some items to be permanently deleted.  Once they're deleted out of here, the storage will show as freed up on your iPhone view within iTunes.
