Q: lost all podcasts & music

I have just lost all my podcasts and music on my device.  Before, the content bar showed about half my 64 GB ipod full, mostly foreign language podcasts – maybe 28 GB free.  Now, all of a sudden, it shows almost no content & 58 GB free.  However, when I look at the itunes panel for “On My Device”, I see all the podcasts and my music listed – they just aren’t on my ipod anymore.

At the same time, OverDrive for Windows, which I use to sync Library audiobooks borrowed from our digital library for many years, all of the sudden says “No portable device recognized” when I try to transfer the book to my ipod.  This is completely sudden – I’ve done nothing different than I have been doing for years - & the same thing happens whether I plug the ipod into my desktop or laptop.

I have over 2000 podcasts from a foreign language website that I no longer subscribe too, so I really don’t want to lose those podcasts!  Can someone help me?

iPod touch, iOS 5.1.1

If they are not accessible/playable on the iPod the see if yo can import them to a computer using a program like iFunBox or TouchCopy. If you can't do that then they are lost.

I guess you do not have a backup?

Thanks for answering.  No, I didn't back them up - what's wrong with me?!?

The weird thing is that I can see the podcasts under "on my device", but syncing doesn't put them on my ipod.

Judging by the posts, this seems to happen to a lot of people - wonder why it's happening so much . . .

Anyway, thanks again for the suggestion.

Have you tried syncing by selecting Podcasts in Settings in the window on the left -- not On My Device -- and checking the Sync Podcasts box at the top?
