    Hi, Liman23.

Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.

I would recommend uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes.  Make sure to uninstall iTunes and all components as outlined in the attaching information below.

    1. If iTunes fails to install or repair, it might be necessary to remove components left from a previous installation of iTunes and then reinstall.

Remove and reinstall iTunes and other software components for Windows XP.
Remove and reinstall iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8.

Songs you bought from the iTunes Store or imported from CDs are saved in your My Music folder by default. Deleting iTunes won’t delete your music.

         Restart your computer.

If you can't install or update iTunes for Windows

    Cheers,

If the post above hasn't helped...

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.

Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

If the advice above doesn't resolve things you could try this alternate version:

    • iTunes 12.1.0.71 for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) - itunes64setup.exe (2015-01-28)

which is a 64-bit installer for the 32-bit version of the core application, similar to previous 64-bit releases.

Or roll back to the previous build:

Thank you for the replies. The error message has not caused any problems so far.

I was able to backup, sync, and update my ios 8.1.3.

I just really hate uninstalling iTunes one program at a time in the correct order.

I cannot count the times I've had to do this since the release of the iphone 3.

    Have a good day.

I just tried this on the latest version of iTunes 12.1.1.4 (64-bit) and with this latest version it doesn't matter if you install this on a clean system or not, the error message still comes up when run on Windows 8.1

This is a new problem with the update of 12.1.1.4 this week.  The workaround is to ignore and hide the error message, iTunes still works fine.

    Cheers,
