Hi there petterpublicname,

I see that you have some questions about setting up your iTunes Store account without a credit card or payment method, but you want to use an Apple ID that has previously been created. As per the article you have linked, which I will echo below, this is not possible:

Create an iTunes Store, App Store, or iBooks Store account without a credit card or other payment method - Apple Support

http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204034

If you already have an Apple ID

If you've already created your Apple ID, you'll need to add a payment method when you first use it to sign in to the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBooks Store. But you can optionally remove the payment methodafter you sign in to the store. You won't be asked for a payment method again until you make your first purchase.

However, you can use an acceptable method of store credit or some other payment methods in order to accomplish this, as outlined in this article:

Payment methods you can use in the iTunes Store, Mac App Store, App Store, and iBooks Store - Apple Support

Thanks for coming to the Apple Support Communities!

Hi again petterpublicname,

You are correct, it is absolutely free to have an Apple ID and an iTunes Store account. A payment method is still required in order to use your Apple ID as an iTunes Store account, and an authorization hold would be used when your iTunes Store account is activated. This hold is not a charge, and is returned back to you, the details of which are noted in the following article:

iTunes Store & Mac App Store: About payment card authorization holds - Apple Support

http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201292

After your iTunes Store account is activated, you are free to remove your payment method from your iTunes Store account. You can accomplish this by using the information in the following article:

Change or remove your payment information from your iTunes Store account (Apple ID) - Apple Support

so if it's free, why do i need a method of payment? (and please don't just answer, because you need it (i.e. just to complete the registration, you can remove it later blah blah)).

As mentioned, I do not have a credit card, I do not expect to need one since updates are free, somehow I can not using apples instructions get updates anyways.

But it is solved now. I found some hack online that lets me get the updates i needed without any valid method of payment 😉.

How to proceed if i already have an appleid but i have no credit card???
