Q: I changed my Apple ID, and can't sign into Messages.

I changed my Apple ID to my desired e-mail address after signing out of all apps on my Macbook Pro (10.10.1). When I went to log in, I could log into the App Store, iTunes, and other apps. However I cannot connect to iMessage, FaceTime, or iCloud. I've restarting everything in and out of Safe Mode, reset my PRAM, even changed my ID to the old one and back. Still nothing. I'm at a complete loss. Any ideas?

    Hi,

Did you remove the Keychain item that lists the IDS: YourAppleID@some.com-Auth Token ?

Did you remove the com.apple.ids.service.com.apple.madrid.plist as well before restarting Messages.

I removed a couple Keychain items that seemed related, but there were none under the filename that you specified.

I've also looked for the .plist that you mentioned and cannot find it.

There are a bunch of keys that say "Apple ID [old@appleid.com] key," but I get warnings before removing those. Should I remove them? They seem linked to my old ID.

    Hi,

You are holding the ALT Key down in the Finder (any finder window open) and then using the Go Menu ?

This will then show the hidden Library in the Menu list.

You need to select that then the Preferences to get  to the .plist

What warnings are you getting in the Keychain Access ?

I was looking there, but I guess I just didn't wait for the folder to populate. Should I delete the .plist and restart Messages?

    Yes.

    Delete the madrid item.

The Keychain Alert messages seem fairly standard.

The issue if you wait until setting up the new ID will be trying to identify them separately.

Deleted the .plist and the keys, still saying "Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again."

Thank you for your help, I need this app for work so I appreciate it.

    Hummm,

    Double check these settings:-

System Preferences > Date and Time including setting the Automatic Time Server and the Time Zone

System Preferences > Network > Advanced Button > DNS tab. This should list two DNS servers form your ISP (not just a Router IP - compare it with the one listed in the TCP/IP tab).  If they are not there copy them from your router's settings page or use Public ones.

In Messages > Preferences > Accounts > iMessages Accounts > Details button

Check this lists the correct country /region you are in.

In the Contacts App > Card Menu > Show My Card make sure it is your details.

If you cannot access the Preferences in Messages use the Font Book app to check the AppleGothic (all one word) font which is near the bottom of the list.

Couldn't access the Messages location you mentioned because I can't sign in to an iMessage account, but other than that everything checks out, and yet I still can't sign in.

    Hi,

Do you mean you can't access  the Preferences ?

If so did you try the Font Book bit ?

    Is the Font Present ?

Does it Validate (File Menu in the Font Book app).

It should not be duplicated and not Disabled.
