Q: Export to pub - no file structure?

A few years ago I made an ePub via pages. It worked fine, by formatting the chapters as Heading or Chaptername I got a working epub-file structure upon export from pages. But now, working in the updated Pages 5.5.2 this does work as expected. If I set up my pages document with a TOC and insert pagebreaks manually - the resulting pub looks ok at first sight. But what the pages to pub export does, is just make "once chapter" of the whole books - one html-file It does not break up the individual chapters in to different html-files. Should I avoid using pages for this?

Best regards,

Morten

Pages v5.5.2 is not based on the Pages '09 code pool, and is missing over 100+ features found in the older Pages application. If anything, it is a sad downgrade for those that expect competent software from Apple. Read this Apple Support document: Creating ePub files with Pages — there is a link in there to a Pages v5 compatible ePub Best Practices template that has many paragraph styles essential to proper ePub creation.

I would recommend you continue to use Pages '09 v4.3 if you have it, and you may, in /Applications/iWork '09.

Thanks! I did try and use the best practices template. It does not seem to be working. I think my conclusion is to use other software for epub creation. Pages export to epub is probably fine if you need to share a document with other people to read on their phones. I need to create an ebook that can sold through bookstores. I have made other ebooks with pages - that validated on ibookstore. But that was a long time ago. Strangely the new Pages does not work in the same way. Maybe there is a fix, but there is only so much time to be spent on trial and errors.

    Regards, Morten
