Q: iphone to android messaging

Wife switched to android based phone. When we text message my phone still sends her an iMessage, which she does not receive. I click on message to make a text, but how do I change this permanently?

iPhone 6, iOS 8.1.3

The issue isn't with your phone, but with your wife not sign out of imessage:
