iPhone 5 - iOS6 to iOS8?

Hello,

I am using iPhone 5 with iOS6.1.4, I didn't upgrade my iOS since day 1 I purchased my phone. Now that I wanted to use some of the applications, it requires iOS 7 and above. I have read many downside reviews about iOS 8 and am truly concerned if I should upgrade my iOS 6 to iOS 8? Please advice:

1) Can I restore to original factory setting iOS6 after upgrading to iOS8? Or am I doomed?

2) What data is included in the backup? Notes? Contacts? Text messages? Chat apps history messages?

3) Anyone has tried iOS8 on iPhone 5? Does it gives you any problem?

Your help is highly appreciated.

Thank you so much

Sincerely, Ava

You can probably at least an equal number of positive reviews. Remember that people who come here usually do so because they're having a problem. People don't usually stop by just to say, "Hi, everything is fine! Have a nice day!".

Once you upgrade, you will not be able to go back to a previous version of the software.

Hi Ava,

I have iOS 8 on my iPhone 5s. The reason I even purchased an iPhone 5s was so I could get iOS 8 since my "other" phone is an iPhone 4. I have had zero issues with iOS 8.

As Meg said, you cannot go back to iOS 6 once you have upgraded. However, if you are planning on restoring to a backup, much of your data and settings will be restored. You can back up to iCloud or iTunes (or both), then restore from one or the other. Apple recommends that your restore from an iCloud backup:

Hi Gail,

Thank you for responding to my questions. Really appreciate it :-)

It's a bummer that apple doesn't allow the user to roll back to it's original iOS (at time of purchase). It would have been a great feature which provides relieve to the users. Looks like there is no turning back once I upgrade to iOS 8...

Based on your experience with iOS 8, there are no performance and wifi issues?

Cheers

I have had no issues whatsoever. My iPhone 4 is an AT&T phone, and I pretty much never have any cell coverage at all (no service). My iPhone 5s is a Verizon, and I always have both cell service and Wifi. So, not sure if some users' issues are related to the carrier or not. But I have had no issues at all. I primarily use my device to take photos, but they always stream to my other devices and to my Mac almost instantaneously.

Cheers,

GB
