How can I get a touch-pen out of the hole on the side of my iPad?
I put a stylus-type pen my son-law gave me, and now I can't get it out, either by twisting it or pulling it! Help!

I'm afraid I'm not sure what 'hole' you're talking about. Or does your stylus/touch pen have a little tether that plugs into the headphone jack?
If it's that, did it break off inside?
If you have an Apple store nearby, I'd make an appointment and take it in, if for no other reason, if there are scratches/marks on your iPad then those marks can be used as an excuse if there's any future issues - for example scratch up the side of your iPad trying to get it out and - totally unrelated - 6 months from now the headphone jack stops working, the failure will be blamed on those scratches.
If i'm not guessing right, perhaps if you post a photo of the issue or a more detailed explanation and we'll see if anyone can come up with any ideas for you
