Can I change my .mac ID to my .icloud ID?

My Apple ID is a .mac ID, however I've been receiving some whatsapp messages from a foreign number saying they have bought an old iPhone and it has my .mac iCloud address on it. I even received a text from "Apple" saying my phone had been found in my city and I should click a link to see it's location.... I haven't clicked on any link. They text me my full ID so I know they have it. I'm not sure how they got my number for whatsapp either!

I have changed the password so I hope it's secure.

Can I change my .mac ID to my .icloud ID without losing my iCloud contacts, photos etc?

I have an iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, macbook and apple TV so I hope I can do it smoothly!

Also... is there an email address I can report this to apple?

Thanks in advance.

Hello Michkat81,

I'm sorry to hear you are having this issue. I also apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of the situation you are describing. If you have a device that was not cleared and removed before it was sold, you may want to make sure that it has been removed from your iCloud account, as outlined below:

iCloud: Remove your device from Find My iPhone

Hi Michkat81,

You cannot change an Apple ID that is an Apple domain email address (@me.com, @mac.com, @icloud.com). Since you have change your password, you should be safe. Changing to a different Apple ID would cause you would not have access to the iCloud account linked to the @mac.com email. Contacts are easy to keep on the device when you sign out of iCloud, and your Camera Roll photos would remain on the device, but you would "lose" your @mac.com Photo Stream.

See if the scamming stops now that you have changed your password. I would also suggest that you put 2-Step Verification on your Apple ID:

It does add another level of security to your Apple account.

And excellent that you have not clicked on any links! Apple does have a link for reporting phishing:

Best of luck,
