This is not working in iMovie 10.0.6 but did work in 9.x.x. I am connecting via firewire cable and system report indicates the port is functional yet iMovie does not list as a connected device/camera. Sony DCR-PC100E is a digital camera recording onto tape (the small ones).
Is Apple working on this?

I think Apple has dropped support for your camera in iMovie 10 (along with most if not all tape-based cameras) . The list of supported cameras is at: Cameras supported by iMovie - Apple Support and your model does not appear.
Options:
- As far as I am aware you can still use iMovie 9 in Yosemite.
- Maybe someone else can suggest a workaround to get the files from tape onto the computer. [You don't necessarily have to connect the camera directly to the computer so if you can transfer them using another application (iPhoto? Image Capture?) you may be able to import them into iMovie 10].

In fact if you go to the link of supported camera's it states iMovie does support Sony DV tape based cameras with the following qualifier '† iMovie works with most mini DV tape-based camcorders using DV and HDV formats. Use FireWire port for tape-based devices'.
However, and for the benefit of those that follow this discussion - I can now speak with some authority and confirm that iMovie 10 has dropped support for Sony DV tape based cameras. All is not lost for me because my sheer chance my son has not updated his Macbook Pro and his version of iMovie (8.x.x) which most definitely allows me to transfer content to the MBP - and I have borrowed his MBP for the duration of my task. 🙂
If you had iMovie version 9.x.x on your Mac before Yosemite then it will still be available to you.Have a look in your Applications folder for this version 9.
Then ,hopefully, no need to rely on your son's MBP being available.
