Q: Why do I have a"Missing Manual" called "iPhoto 11" when the latest is iPhoto 9.6?

Does this make any sense to anybody?

Thanks.

You're right, nobody needs to use iCloud photo library with Photos, and we cannot discuss Photos here, beyond what Apple has released.

It's all over the media léonie,

I'm not sure what is under NDA, but there appears to be an awful lot of 'loose lips' if it isn't meant to be discussed

So what - until Photos is released no one know exactly what will be released - - and it matters not a bit since the Terms of use you agreed to when you signed up for this forum specifically forbid speculation on Apple policies which includes speculation on unreleased products - hence Léonie's accurate statement that

we cannot discuss Photos here, beyond what Apple has released.

But here we are Apple's guests in Apple's own forum.

I'm not sure what is under NDA,

The only way to find that out would be to sign up for a Developer account, agree to the Terms of Use for Developers; and start testing MacOSX  10.10.3 and Photos.

Not wanting to beat a dead horse, but (for me) the most important rule in the Terms of Use for these forums is, that we are required to try out any advice we give here on our own devices. This is to ensure, that any information posted here is reliable and prevent this forums to be flooded by half truth. And it also helps to make sure we we'll not give dangerous advice and recommend things from hear-say, that we never would try on our own devices.

A wonder what the collective noun for "martinets" is?  FYI:  the conversation wasn't/isn't really about the new software...it's about the "Cloud."  Further, when article about PHOTOS appear in consumer publications including the Wall Street Journal,  to wag your finger about a term, in a "Terms & Conditions" document published by Apple regarding the use of their forum beats all.  That said...

I bought a book for an Apple product that doesn't exist: iPhoto 11.  Anybody care to wag a finger about misrepresentation... tacitly sponsored misrepresentation.

    Time for me to go.

iPhoto '11 exists: All iPhoto versions with version names starting with 9 are iPhoto '11. So you can buy iPhoto '11, version 9.6 from the App Store

Many Apple webpages are referring to iPhoto '11, meaning the current iPhoto version.

David Pogue's "Missing Manuals" are really great. I learned a lot from them and my bookshelves are stuffed with them. Only the printed manuals will always describe the software like it was the day it has been released.

    What load of twaddle.

You're confusing the Marketing name - iPhoto 11, released in 2010 as part of the iLife 11 suite -  with the version number - v9. That's all. You don't really believe that Office 2011 is the two thousand and eleventh version of Word, do you? So the misrepresentation is all yours.

Exactly what dangerous advice has been given? Telling someone they can use a future product without iCloud?

Has it occurred to you that this could be a public beta?

If you want to tell people off for discussing items covered by the developer agreement maybe you should check that it is actually covered only by that agreement?

OS X also has a beta program that is separate from the developer program…

    https://appleseed.apple.com/sp/betaprogram/faq

I know that will have ominous words about what you can't do, but do you really believe every media outlet is risking legal action from the worlds largest tech company?

If you look around, this latest media is not like the old style leaks, this is every tech news site publishing in depth reviews of unreleased software. Previous 'leaks' were squashed by Apple via takedown notifications, now this appears to be allowed with many major sites publishing many details (lots of which Apple mentioned in the keynote anyway - e.g. already made public by Apple).

Maybe you should take a deep breath and consider Apple are opening up a little.

    Drew,

I did not say, that dangerous advice has been given, but that the rule to post only what we have tried on our own devices, is meant to prevent dangerous advice.

If you want to change Apple's rules for these forums, use the feedback forms with feature request, to allow the discussion of Beta software. I am astonished, that this thread is still alive. Usually the moderators are quicker to erase all attempts to discuss Beta software.
