Q: Best frame rate for national TV commercial
Hi! I will be shooting and editing a national TV commercial next month. I will be shooting on the Red Scarlet.
I'm trying to assess the best frame rate to capture the footage. i typically shoot 23.98 and then convert to the TV stations specifications (Typically 720P 59.94 or 1080i 29.97 are their requirements in HD format) But I'm not sure that's the best workflow to follow.
My dilemma is: If I shoot at 23.98 won't my NLE add back in additional frames to get the 29.97 or 59.94 that the TV station requires?
Doesn't it make more sense to shoot at 29.97 so I already have the frames? I don't see much difference in footage shot at 23.98 vs 29.97. I do know that 23.98 is what movies are shot at and that the 'filmic' look is coveted. But wouldn't shooting at 29.97 or even 59.94 give me a crisper image? and that way I have 30 "true" images vs "cloned images?
What I really need to know is what frame rate cameramen/ DPs shoot major TV commercials at. If anyone out there has experience shooting national TV commercials I would really appreciate your input and expertise. Please let me know which frame rate you typically use and what advantage there is to using it.
Thank you!
