iweb quits unexpectedly

Sorry to hear this is happening to you. Here is a possible solution to this issue....

It's possible that your iWeb preferences file has been corrupted. Deleting this file will force iWeb to create a fresh copy...

This file is called "com.apple.iWeb.plist" You can find it by navigating through your hard drive at the following folder location.../Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/... Once you find it, drag it into your trash can, empty the trash, restart your Mac, then try to open iWeb again.

have you tried repairing permissions?

Applications ... Utilities ... Disk Utility. Select your Hard Disk and click Repair Disk Permissions.

Hmm. Did you check your RAM?

I've heard dodgy third party RAM can sometimes cause problems

Check to see how much memory (RAM) is in your Mac:

Go to top left (apple) menu drop down - About This Mac - gives a summary of how much memory you have.

If you've only got 512MB you might want to think about putting some more in.

If you've had extra memory put in since you had your iMac it's possible that it could be causing you problems - you could try taking it out and starting iWeb. Your manual will tell you how to do that.

Another thing is, you say you crashed your iMac at the start of all this, so you might need to run some maintenance. In Disk Utility, run Verify Disk (the button on the right) and see what it comes up with.

I am having the same quitting unexpectedly problem, but I am able to open iWeb. However, when I click on the media button, the dialogue pops up, and when it finishes loading either my music or pictures, iWeb crashes and gives me the option to close, report or reopen. So I have erased the prefs, I don't have any third party RAM, and the funniest thing is that it is consistently doing this every time starting a week ago, but before a week ago, everything worked perfectly. So weird. The only thing that has changed on my computer is that I added some photos of a trip that I took to iPhoto. That is the only thing. here is my crash log, for those of you who know more about this than I do.

Whoooah Jeff - hopefully somebody will be able to figure something out of that lot.

It looks like you're uploading via a wireless connection.

If you are you might want to search the forum for this cos I'm sure lots of people have had problems publishing on wireless, but then been ok with a cable connection.

The trick to that, though, is that it has been working up until a couple of days ago. And also it doesn't crash when uploading, because I publish to folder. It crashes when I open the media browser.
Let's be honest. I put the crash log up there because I hope it means something, but it is all greek to me. Literally.

Media browser issues....

Try looking in your Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. Do you see a file called "com.apple.iLifeMediaBrowser.plist"? If you do see it, delete it. Then try iWeb again to see if the media browser issues remain.

Otherwise there are plist preference files for iTunes and iPhoto that can also be tossed. These have been implicated in funny media browser behavior before, too.

The only other thing I noticed from your Crash Report is wher it starts "Thread 2 Crashed" it mentions Media Browser and iTunes.

Just guessing. But you also mentioned that this happened after adding some photos, so again maybe one of your image files is corrupt? You could try deleting the photos and saving/publishing again.

There is no iLifeMediaBrowser or MediaBrowser in the pref folder. Also, I threw out iPhoto prefs with no change in the crashing behavior. The thing is that the media browser causes the crash no matter what media is selected; movies, photos or tunes.

I have taken pictures before and had them not readable by iPhoto but readable and printable from Preview.
However, these photos are not those photos, and I am able to read, adjust and print these photos from iPhoto, leading me to believe that they are not corrupted. I know it does seem funny that I added these photos and wham-o the crashing starts, and I know there isn't any such thing as coincidence, but I am really thinking that the issue is not with the actual photos themselves since the browser causes the crash when the movie browser finishes loading, which has nothing to do with photos. I am thinking that the problem is with the browser itself.
