Q: Why change to Yosemite?

I have a 2009 iMac and reading through the requirements for installing Yosemite I note that many of Yosemite's features will not be supported by my Mac. I wonder therefore whether it would be worthwhile upgrading.

Has anyone in a similar position taken the plunge, and if so have you found it to be of benefit?

    If the upgrade offers you nothing, then there isn't much reason to upgrade. Apple has stopped supporting Snow Leopard, but I'm not sure if that is any reason to upgrade.

    If you are at 10.6, there have been major changes to the OS which will be somewhat overwhelming taken all at once.

    You also need to verify that your software will continue to run in Yosemite. This website can help: http://roaringapps.com/apps

    I can't see any reason to do it. If you search the discussions, you'll find that some people using audio software are having problems. If you want to try Yosemite, there is a safe way to do that: download it and install it on a spare external HD.

     

    You probably should not use Safari on your Snow Leopard drive, because Apple is providing no security fixes for it. Instead, use Firefox, which works very well with Snow Leopard and is kept up to date. Also check out this discussion:

    Thanks for your advice.

    I checked out the ntp and it is an old version 4.1.4

    However I was unable to follow (understand) the macissues guide to updating the ntp file. At step 6 I got 2 configure :error; messages.

     

    configure: error: in `/Users/laurencewright/Downloads/ntp-4.2.8':

    configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH

    See `config.log' for more details

     

    I ignored these and tried step 7 but received a 'command not found' comment , so I went no further.

    Do you have any idea as to where I have gone wrong?
