Q: Home Sharing Not Working - ATV2

Experienced User.

I've recently moved, purchased a Linksys EA3500 router, and updated to iTunes 12.  I can no longer connect from my Apple TV to my computer to steam movies and music from iTunes.  I am stumped.

My Setup

Windows 8.1 64-bit (updated)

ITunes 12.1.0.71

Apple TV 2 - updated

Linksys EA3500 - firmware updated

Here's what I've done (and tried home sharing between every step)....

Confirmed I have internet on Apple TV by steaming a trailer

Reconnected to wireless network on the Apple TV

Turned off / On Home sharing in iTunes.

Turned off / On Home sharing in Apple TV.

Restarted the PC

Tried connecting using Ethernet directly to router.

Went back to wireless network on Apple TV

Forget wireless network  on the Apple TV

Open TCP and UDP ports per Apple recommendations.

Shut off windows firewall to private network

Uninstalled ITunes and Bonjour

Uninstalled Virus protection software

Used CCleaner to clean registry

Reinstalled ITunes and Bonjour

Created a new libray (To test the if home sharing would work)

I am stumped.....

Apple TV (2nd generation), Windows 8

You aren't the only one that is stumped and wasted alot of time.    See this thread.  I think its up to Apple to fix this and hopefully soon.

    Good day beckntrav,

That is quite a bit of troubleshooting you have done to resolve your issue with home sharing between iTunes on your computer and your Apple TV. There are just a few more things I would like you to try, listed in this article -

Troubleshooting Home Sharing - Apple Support

In particular, step 7. Restart your network router.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

    Safe computing,

Be sure to go to iTunes on your shared library device and go to file -> Home Sharing

There's a second option there to actually turn home sharing on.

No clue why this is needed in addition to the home sharing setup menu in preferences but not setting this will keep it from working, ran into this issue myself today when my library went missing.

I did all of the suggestions above with no success, thank you.

I was able to make it work by re-installing iTunes 11 And rebuilding the library.

    SOLVED.

By uninstalling the Ethernet driver in the computer it discovered Home Sharing after reinstallation of the driver.

I did the same thing at a friends house and had the same success.

    Here's what I did...

I have Windows7, but this would work with whatever OS.

    1) I went here...

    Mac OS X
    /Users/username/Music/iTunes/iTunes Library.itl
    /Users/username/Music/iTunes/iTunes Library.xml

    Windows XP
    \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl
    \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.xml

Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8
    \Users\username\Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl
    \Users\username\Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.xml

    2) Close iTunes, then change the extension to .old on both of the files listed above.

    3) Open iTunes, my Library was gone and was to be expected.

    4) Close iTunes, then delete the two new files created (iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Library.xml).  Then rename the .old files back to the original extensions.

    Good Luck!!
