Airport Express disrupts WIFI

I want to use my Airport Express with Airplay only. I do not want to use my Airport Express to extend my WIFI network.

Because of the location of my stereo is not possible to connect using ethernet.

When I join the Airport Express to the WIFI network the internet connection completely drops out.

Is it possible to use Airplay without disrupting my internet connection?

MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2010), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

With the AirPort Express properly configured as a wireless client, you should be able to stream to the Express without the base station extending an existing Wi-Fi network. Please review the following Apple Support article to be sure you didn't miss anything when attempting to configure yours to join a network.
