File/export/Using Compressor. Then choose the 16:9 setting there using the shortest preset in minutes you can.

Are you going to use DVD SP?

In DVD Studio Pro you can change the aspect ratio of your sequence from 4:3 to 16:9 simply without any rendering or exporting.

-Import into DVD Studio Pro
-Click and load it into the Inspector window from the Assets window (lower left corner).
-Change the aspect ratio in the popup menu from 4:3 to 16:9.
In result, it looks great.

Mpeg2 encoding is pretty intensive, but personally, that sounds a bit excessive to me, considering the fact that you have a DP G5.

Can you tell us the exact settings that you are using in Compressor?

You didn't say, but I assume your original material is 16:9 right? If it's 4:3 stuff, some of the above suggestions may give unexpected results.

Generally you author your DVD material to match the settings of your shoot/edit. Let the DVD player worry about the aspect ratio of the TV to which it's attached.

You'll get better encoding times if you export your sequence using QucikTime Movie current settings (I prefer self contained) and use that file in Compressor outside FCP.

That way you can use FCP while encoding in the background.
