MKV is not supported, why ?

I just downloaded FinalCut Pro Trial version and through to buy it later if it works for me. but the movie i tried ti import is in MKV format. Please tell me why this so famous software is not supporting MKV format ? now what should i do to import that movie ?

i need to cut some parts of that movie, then remerget it and extract some audio from it.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2), Processor 2.5 GHz Intel Core i7

mkv is no 'format' in its original means.

it's a container, or media-wrapper - can contain literally all sort of stuff.


In your case a rip-off of a commercial DVD - could be mp2, could be h264, could be ogg, could be ... anything.


There are tools avail, such as MKVtoolnix, claiming to handle all that… most based upon ffmpg, which is far from robust, nor delivering standard-conform formats, due to reverse-engineering ...

well, that's one of the many probs with torrents rip-offs... 😉
