Feb 13, 2015 2:00 PM in response to tommiekby K Shaffer,According to the Apple Support article about that...
Important: If your Mac was introduced before June 2013, you will use Apple Hardware Test rather
than Apple Diagnostics. See •Intel-based Macs: Using Apple Hardware Test for instructions...
Hopefully that helps.
Good luck & happy computing!

Feb 13, 2015 2:01 PM in response to tommiekby Niel,Apple Diagnostics isn’t available for that Mac model. Insert its second original disk and use the Apple Hardware Test instead.

Feb 13, 2015 2:34 PM in response to tommiekby K Shaffer,Because your computer shipped with an older OS X version installed,
it was designed with the then/current technologies, Apple Diagnostics
would not apply. According to the article my reply cited, it says:
•Using Apple Hardware Test on computers with OS X v10.7 and earlier
AHT is located on the Applications Install Disc 2 and should be included with your computer
or the MacBook Air Software Reinstall Drive on a MacBook Air (Late 2010). To start AHT on
these computers make sure the Applications Install Disc 2 is inserted into the built-in optical
drive, external Apple Superdrive, or for the MacBook Air (Late 2010) be sure the MacBook
Air Software Reinstall Drive is inserted into a USB port. Then, follow steps 1-6 outlined in
the previous section of this article.
So this is the long route to do what Niel more simply stated in his reply.
Hopefully you can resolve the issues after troubleshooting...
Good luck & happy computing!
