iCloud and Apple ID problem

I'm using OS X Yosemite on my Mac Mini from late 2009, using 2.53 GHz Intel Processor, with 4 GB memory at 1067 MHz. It was working fine for several months, except for slowness, until this morning, when I stopped getting email. Then I also discovered the Apple ID doesn't work: I keep getting the message "Password entered Incorrectly" even after I've changed it and know it's correct - entered several times, in several ways.

Mac mini, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2), 2.53 GHz Intel Core2 Processor

Good morning jcbarrick,

I want to make sure I understand your issue. Your Apple ID is an email address. Is the issue you are having with your Apple ID or is it with a different email address you use for sending and receiving mail?

If this is the Apple ID that you use for iCloud services, here are some troubleshooting steps to address it. Click on the link below to see more details and screenshots. I've quoted some key information for you:

iCloud: Account troubleshooting - Apple Support

Initial troubleshooting steps

  1. Check System Status to make sure there are no outages or scheduled maintenances currently affecting your iCloud account. System Status is available from the iCloud Support website.
  2. Update your computer or device to the latest software version. See iCloud system requirements for more information.
  3. Ensure that you are logged in to iCloud with your Apple ID on your iOS device, Mac, or PC:

  • OS X:
    1. Go to the Apple () menu > System Preferences, and click iCloud.
    2. Verify that you are signed in. If necessary, click the Account Details button for more information.
  • I can't sign in to iCloud on my Mac due to an alert stating that my email address has not been verified.

If you can't sign in due to the alert “Account not verified - Check your email for instructions for verifying your account”:

    1. Close and reopen iCloud preferences before attempting to sign in to iCloud again.
    2. If that does not resolve the issue, check your email folder and Junk folder for a verification email sent from Apple.
    3. If there is no verification email in your email folder or Junk folder, click the Resend Verification Email button in iCloud preferences.
  • I receive a “failed user name or password” alert when attempting to sign in at iCloud.com, in iCloud preferences (Mac), or in the iCloud Control Panel (PC).

    • Make sure that you're entering your entire Apple ID when you sign in (for example, if your Apple ID is username@me.com, make sure that you aren't trying to sign in with just “username”).
    • Verify that the Caps Lock key is not enabled. All passwords are case sensitive.
    • Make sure that you're using the correct iCloud-associated Apple ID and not a different Apple ID used for other services. For more information about having more than one Apple ID, refer to Using your Apple ID for Apple services.
    • If needed, reset your Apple ID password at iforgot.apple.com.

If you use the same Apple ID for iCloud as you do for other Apple Services, (for example, Apple Online Store, iTunes Store, or Mac App Store), changing your iCloud account password also changes your password for the other Apple services. Make sure that you sign in to those services using your new password. Also, be sure to update your Apple ID password on all of your devices and computers that may use your Apple ID (such as any email applications that you use to receive iCloud email).

Hope this helps ...

Apple says it’s easy to establish a new Apple ID, so I did. They ask that the primary email address be the Apple ID, but when I go to put in jcbarrick@mac.com, a dialog box comes up that says, “Apple ID must

- be a valid email address

- be available

- not use a domain owned by Apple

Since the last caveat excludes mac.com, me.com, and icloud.com, I went with jcbarrick@comcast.net, (which I use sometimes, but not often, since Comcast hassles me whenever I do) and created a new password for it, too - although sometimes (later) it asks for the password associated with jcbarrick@mac.com, which is confusing, since it won’t accept either the password that goes with the latter email address nor the new one.
