How to delete songs from Ipod Nano

Is this normal????? When I delete songs from my ipod nano, it automatically erases the song from my itunes librabry? How can I fix this problem. Please help.....

Ipod Nano Generation 2 & reg ipod, Mac OS X (10.4.8)

No it's not, it normally works the other way around. If your iPod is set to update automatically deleting from iTunes will delete from the iPod. If your iPod is set to manual update (which is the only way to delete directly from your iPod) then deleting from it should have no effect on iTunes. If you have all your songs in iTunes then you could try restoring your iPod, this will erase the hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings:
