Feb 16, 2015 6:49 AM in response to Luke.wilkins6by sterling r,Hi Luke.Wilkins6,
It sounds like you are pressing the top Sleep/Wake button and the phone seems to shutdown rather than go to sleep, and occasionally youll see a purple screen rather than the Apple logo when you start it. I would start by resetting the phone, with these steps:
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
- To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
If the issue persists I would use the following article to backup your device to iTunes and restore it from your backup. If the issue persists, then restore it one more time as new using the same article to isolate to the backup file itself.
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
Regards,
Sterling

Feb 16, 2015 4:10 PM in response to sterling rby Luke.wilkins6,Hello, thanks for your reply. I have tried resetting the system but it still occurs. In a few days when I am next able to get to my computer, I'm going to factory reset it. I hope it works. Could the phone still resolve this problem by resetting it direct through the phone? (no computer)
Thanks.

Feb 18, 2015 2:03 PM in response to Luke.wilkins6by sterling r,It could but if it is an issue with the iOS installation itself, I don't think that it will to be very honest because it will keep using the same iOS installation it already has.

Feb 21, 2015 12:27 AM in response to sterling rby Luke.wilkins6,Okay,I am starting to download the iOS on my iTunes, but its saying it is going to take 50 Hours. Is there any faster way?
Also is it natural to still have the purple screen while it is plugged into iTunes? It also seems to keep ejecting and re-injecting into my System.

iTunes: Resolve USB-related alerts
But you may very well need service for these issues you are seeing if it just won't work:
