iMovie keeps cropping the top of video when moved from 'event' to 'project'

I'm using Quicktime to do screen recordings and then importing the file into iMovie to edit.

The problem I'm having is when I'm editing the video in the 'project' section, it automatically crops the video where I can't see the menu bar on the top of the lower part of the screen.

I then choose the "crop" button and the 3 options are: Fit, Crop to Fill, & Ken Burns. If I choose 'Fit' it only shows half of the top menu bar. It will only let me choose from those 3 options and hitting the "Reset All" button does nothing...

In the 'event' section, it shows the video in FULL, the way that it was recorded in the screen recording.

How can I get the video in 'project' to NOT be cropped when moving it from the 'event' section?
