Q: Cannot sync photos "iPhoto library is not yet available"

When syncing iPhone 5s to iMac running Yosemite and get the following error:

"iTunes cannot sync photos to the iPhone "iPhone" because your iPhoto library is not yet available. Please try again later."

This phone has been syncing with iPhoto for some time now. This is a new one to me.

Tried rebooting the phone and the desktop machine, same result.

Interestingly, in iTunes when selecting the "photos" page all I get is the spinning circle for the iPhone, the other selections, Summary, Apps, etc., all load fine.

The same situation is true for the iPad mini, the photo page never loads. I have not attempted to sync the iPad since this error appeared.

Anyone familiar with this error?

This mac has had the "iPod" cache folder deleted in past months to clear another sync error, but had been syncing fine since then.

iTunes version 12.1.050

Thanks!

I tried a lot of options - f.e. removing the some files in the library with helpful advices of "léonie" - but it regrettable did not work....after trying to "repair" - i did not finish because I have many photos and it lasted ages and stayed some time at 6%.. - today I tried to find some answers in the iPhone forum but could not find any...

After some other trying I changed the address of my Photo Library to the safe copy at another HD. I tried to sync with my iPad and it did not work - even was not synchronizing anything - not even the apps :-( I thought I did something wrong.....but I made an new start and tried to sync with my iPhone and VOILA! it works! Afterwards I made a reset on my iPad and the sync was working too... I do not know what happened...but it seems to be o.k.

Thanks for pointing this out thegoodly. I decided to take the plunge and move 15 years worth of digital photos from iPhoto and Aperture into Photos. To say that the migration path has been a pain in the *** is being too kind to Apple. I'll keep an eye on the Activity monitor and hopefully my photos will become "available" to iTunes soon as I'd like to be able to sync albums to my iPhone again.

öh.. "uncheck and recheck"? What do you mean? I tried it several times ;-) , I killed the prefs, started again...., tried a repair of the photos library...tried it by relocating to my safe-copy of the photo library and back... last information ist: it was working again. But I am really unsure it next time it won't... :-(

I posted the steps above, but basically uncheck sync photos with iPhoto in iTunes with your phone attached.  Then recheck sync with iPhoto and give the sync a try.

I had the same problem, but just found a solution!

    1) Using a browser, access your iCloudDrive.

    2) Click "Photos", causing an automatic preparation (for Jobs know what).

    3) Sync your iOS device.

    That's it.

I hope this will help you all.

    I finally solved my problem.

I opened the file "Aperture Library 2.aplibrary" in Aperture, deleted the Photos library that was created when I migrated my images to Photos, and went back to using Aperture. I'm also evaluating Capture One to eventually replace Aperture.

I had the same problem after upgrading to El Capitan and tried all the various tips in this thread in vain. Why helped me though was to deactivate AntiVirus... I am using ClamXav and when stopping ClamXAV Sentry, the sync went through just fine.

Now, turning off the antivirus in general is not a good idea. So, I configured it to just leave out the photos library folder, which helped without compromising general antivirus protection. So, please check if your antivirus may also intervene and scan the photos library.

Before the solution I wrote above, a preparation process seem to be needed.

    0) Delete all photos on the iOS device (by syncing with your computer with the photo syncing option unchecked).

A user from another thread solved this problem using my way, so I think it's worth trying.

Just followed these directions and after almost a week of regretting downloading all of the new software required to sync my iPhone 6s,

    IT WORKED!

So easy.  Thank goodness I didn't have to try all of those steps previously posted that did not work (no offense to posters.)  Hope it works for you!
