Late 2008 MacBook Aluminum goes to sleep and won't wake up

I know many people have posted about this same issue, but my MacBook won't wake up. I have to hold the power button down until the computer shuts down and restarts.

I tried resetting the SMC and this worked temporarily (maybe like 3 weeks). Is there a program or something running in the background that may be responsible for this issue?
