iPod touch has deleted all my files!

Ok so this is the issue.....Last week I opened my 5th gen iPod touch on my mac at work, I seemed to have loads of space and when I checked it had deleted all my videos and music. So I just wiped it and restored it.

I then loaded the music and videos again and it seemed fine.

So yesterday I added some videos to it on my mac at home and watched a few, then was watching one in the taxi this morning. I go to work, added a few videos and although it shows all my videos, about 30 of them and all my music when I click on them it comes up with ⚠ and they aren't actually on. So it's deleted them again!

Now I have it set to manually managed music and videos so what's the problem?

I don't mind putting stuff back on but I don't wan this to be a regular occurence.

Any ideas? Thanks loads in advance,

Syncing to more than one computer can cause problems like that. Just sync with one computer.

I'm not synched - I'm manually copying files from 2 or 3 machines.

And it's been fine for the last 2 years, so not sure why it's happening now?

Likely because the updates to iTunes. previously Apple specifically said you could manually manage music among different computers. Apple revised that article to delete that option.

You can try using an app like the free iFunBox to copy music w/o iTunes.

I'm having the same exact problem with my 4th gen iPod touch... I'm starting to believe the problem is linked to the latest iTunes update, since I noticed the problem started appearing after I installed it. (I'm using a MacBook with Yosemite as the only computer I sync my iPod to - iTunes version 12.1.0.50)

It seems this is the case - which is utterly ridiculous!

Why upgrade the software to make it worse?

iTunes is a terrible app and we are forced to use it.

I've never had any particular problem with iTunes, but this one is driving me crazy, I thought it was an hardware problem of my iPod and I was even about to bring it to the support centre and have it checked or repaired, and this would have probably costed me money, since the device is no longer under warranty.

I hope Apple fixes this problem soon!

Well I've completely wiped my iPod and started again.

I've got a few apps but not much on there and just films and music now, let's see how long it lasts.

I don't know, actually when the problem started I was using only one mac!

But I'll check the authorization, maybe I've authorized another pc and I don't remember it...

I noticed that the problem occurs more when I try to copy a small number of song at the same time: for example, i copied one song - nothing strange happened, just like when I copied 100 songs all at once. But when I synced 7 songs at the same time, it wiped off all my music library from the device.
