iPad mini front facing camera not working

On my iPad mini, the rear facing camera works fine but it won't switch to the front facing one, when I press it it just blurs out the image the rear facing camera was already showing, does anyone know why this is? it has been happening since I got iOS 7 but it didn't happen as soon as I had updated so I don't think that's what caused it. I did have low storage when it began to stop working but I've deleted things and now thats fine. (I have tried closing the app & restarting but neither work). Any solutions? Thanks.

Hi there Katie,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

Take a look at the article linked below, it provides troubleshooting tips that can help you resolve the issue with the FaceTime HD camera on the front of your iPad mini.

You see a closed lens or black screen

If you see a closed lens or black screen when you open the Camera app, try these steps:

  1. Make sure that there’s nothing blocking the camera lens. If you’re using a case, try removing it.
  2. Force the app to close, then open the Camera app again.
  3. Restart your device, then open the Camera app again.
  4. If your device has a front and rear camera, try both cameras by tapping (camera swap icon). If you see the closed lens or black screen on only one camera, take your device to an Apple Retail Store or Authorized Service Provider for more help.

Ciao,

-Jason
