External Drive Folder Sizes Not Updating

Hi all,

I have an external backup drive on 10.9.5 mac

when I open 1 folder I see other folders who's size can be many MB and some several GIGS in size

however when I open a several gig size drive folder - it is empty (and NOT spinning looking to open inner contents) and says 0 files

but size of folder still says several gigs - so size is NOT updating like OSX used to

ran repair drive with disk util - but problem persists

Q: how do I fix this and/or force the folder sizes to UPDATE CORRECTLY?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

Hi,

I'm on Yosemite but have been experiencing a similar issue for a while, for folders on both internal and external drives.

One thing I just discovered that seems to rectify the issue is, just open a Get Info window in finder for the folder, and after a couple seconds it'll update with the new size in both the Get Info window and Finder itself.

Make sure the hard drive isn't excluded in System Preferences/Spotlight/Privacy, then try re-indexing Spotlight.
