Yes. Just make sure to redeem gift cards so that you always have a credit balance on your own account. Below is a description of how it works.
After you set up your family, any time a family member initiates a new purchase it will be billed directly to your account unless that family member has gift or store credit. First, their store credit will be used to pay the partial or total bill. The remainder will bill to the family organizer's card.

Dec 31, 2015 10:00 AM in response to ed2345by sparkysystem,I had to remove my daughter from family share as the only way to stop her having unrestricted access to my credit card. Really disappointing in Apple.
