The resource below may address the issue you are having with your Thunderbolt display if it is the 27-inch model:
About Thunderbolt Display Firmware Update 1.2 - Apple Support
http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT6093Thunderbolt Display Firmware Update 1.2 improves reliability when you connect devices to an Apple Thunderbolt Display. The update also addresses a rare issue that could cause the display to go black.
This update is intended for the Apple Thunderbolt Display (27-inch) only. To successfully install this update:
- Your computer must have OS X Mavericks v10.9.4 or later.
- Directly attach your Thunderbolt display to your computer's Thunderbolt port, or a port on another Thunderbolt display, using the built-in cable.
- No more than two Thunderbolt displays can be connected during the update.
- If you’re using a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro to run the update, the lid of needs to be open. "Closed clamshell" mode will not allow the update to install.
- Your computer must be plugged in to AC power.
You should see a message telling you what to correct if any of these requirements aren't met. When your computer restarts, you'll see a gray screen with a status bar. If you have multiple displays, only one display will illuminate and show the status bar. The more displays you're updating, the longer the update will take. It can take several minutes to complete. If the display you're updating is the primary display, the screen may go black for up to a minute before the update status bar appears.
Important: Be sure not to disconnect or shut off the power on your computer or display during this update.
To determine if the update applied successfully
- Choose About This Mac from the Apple () menu.
- Click More Info and then click System Report.
- Click Thunderbolt in the list on the left and locate the Thunderbolt Display section. The Firmware Version should be 26.2 and the Port Micro Firmware Version should be 2.0.7 after the update.
If the issue still persists or you are not getting power to the display, it may need to be serviced. Contact Apple technical support or take your device to the nearest Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) for diagnosis. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail Store, make a reservation at the Genius Bar using http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ (available in some countries only).
Hope this helps ...
