Reset to factory and start over.

Factory reset universal

Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.

N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.

Setup the TC again.

ie Start from a factory reset. No files are lost on the hard disk doing this.

Then redo the setup from the computer with Yosemite but your ipad should be tried as well using the iOS version of the airport utility.. if you have issues then isolate the TC from the network and do this fully with stand alone TC.

1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.

eg TCgen5 and TCwifi for basestation and wireless respectively.

In your case.. please do the following.

Use TC24ghz and TC5ghz as wireless names for each band.. with fixed channels.

So you set the first name on the main page of the wireless tab, then hit the wireless options at the bottom. Most of the rest is setup here.

For mobile device set the 2.4ghz channel to 11, 9, 6 in that order and do use the 2.4ghz for your phones and mobile devices.. most are not that fast anyway.. so high speed 5ghz is not needed.

2. Use all passwords that also comply but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.

If that gives trouble still test with no security.

So you have 2.4ghz wireless named.. TC24ghz, with fixed channel say 11 and no security / password just for a brief test.

This is the most simple basic setup that can be ever achieved.. if the devices cannot connect in the same room say 3M from the TC.. and the laptop can, then it is incompatible.. and nothing you do more can fix it.. you will need to get another wireless router or AP at least for the non apple stuff.. but the apple iphone will most likely work. Once this test is completed.. don't forget to use security.. wpa2 personal.. nothing less.

3. For longer term.. Ensure the TC always takes the same IP address.. by default in router mode it will, but in bridge, you will need to do this on the main router using dhcp reservation.. or a bit more complex setup using static IP in the TC.

It is important.. having IP drift all over the place when Yosemite cannot remember its own name for 5 min after a reboot makes for poor networking.
