I changed the limit episodes setting but it is being ignored!

My iPad is almost out of space because podcasts are taking up 75% of it. I went through my subscriptions, and one podcast had 150 download episodes. I changed its settings to :

download new only

delete played episodes

limit episodes to 3 most recent

refresh every hour

I did the pull down to refresh action. No change.

I closed the podcast app and reopened it. No change.

I restarted the iPad. No change.

I can manually delete these episodes, but I'd rather not have to. Is there anything else that I can try to get the podcast app to delete them?
