Messages in Mail 4.6 Empty

I have an older iMac (2007 Model id 5.1) on OS 10.6.8. I imported mail from Entourage and have found that many messages though they show in my folders are empty when I open them...I set up Mail because after i changed the folder's font everything disappeared Entourage (2008) crashed . I was able to obviously import into Mail but am wondering if this is the reason for the empty messages? Some imported fine... (Entourage forums never responded
